Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works (which operated as a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrong from 1928), Supermarine Spitfire. An iconic symbol of Battle of Britain in the Second World War. "Never in the field of human conflict, has so much been owed, by so many - to so few". Quote by Winston Churchil (1940), referring to the ongoing efforts of the Royal Air Force crews who were at the time fighting the Battle of Britain, the pivotal air battle with the German Luftwaffe with Britain expecting a German invasion, as well as starting the dangerous bombing campaign over Germany.
